Everyone has there way of dealing with life when it gets heavy.  Music is my way out.  When I lived in San Franciso I would take the Geary Limited to Land’s End.  I had my Sony walkman with a great classical cassette tape that made the seagulls look like they were choreographed to the music I was listening to.  It was how I reconnected to the universe.  (Except that one time where the naked guy’s footprints and drag mark distracted me.)  When I was newly divorced I listened to a sad music tape a friend made for me, or was he?  I bawled every night for a year.  How do you cope?

Today we went to town.

Feels like summer is finally here.  Time to come out of hibernation and see of anything is new in the thriving hub of the tri-cities area.  (Guerneville is the hub because we have the Safeway).

First stop was the swap meet-in the Safeway parking lot-it happens every weekend.  All the junk that nobody wants ends up here.  This is no antiques roadshow.

Nothing here - so it’s off to the Mercantile.
There is always something here you can’t live without.

Like rubber shoes for $1.05.  Or hats and boots.

Maybe there’s something great at the five and dime?

There was.  The last deck of Hoyle playing cards in Sonoma County.  Now it’s off to Up The River.  Maybe we’ll find a great birthday card, a sexy T or a Speedo.

Whoops, I guess the owner is out getting drunk at the Cattle Company.
I think his dog may be drunk too.

Oh well.  Lets go to Pat’s for those world famous Swedish pancakes.
(really bad crepes).

Are we full?  Lets go to Johnson’s beach to work it off.

Is it beer- thirty yet?  We’ll go to the RRR to see some skin and down some brews.

Soooo… that’s a quick snapshot of our sleepy little Gayberry on a Saturday.
Guerneville.  Vacation destination?

We bought this property a few years ago. It is a cabin built in 1911 and had an  addition that was just started.  The addition had a foundation and some framing and plumbing.  We finished the project after a couple of years and moved from the cabin to the house.  Then we rebuilt the cabin and made it into a guest cottage/master suite.  We just got finished.  And were really enjoying the space, when one night  a few weeks ago, I here this thing on the roof.  I didn’t know what it was and didn’t care.  We live in the forest and share the woods.  I just wanted it to go away so I could sleep.  Turns out  it was a pregnant racoon looking for a nesting place.  When the cabin was being redone the contractor cut out a piece of the roof to accomodate a tree that was rubbing against the house.  By doing so he opened up a big access to the attic.  We’ve since been dealing with a racoon family in the attic.  They are cute, but very noisy.  Mamas can also be quite mean when they have babies.  We’ve been told by area wildlife specialists that the best thing to do is be patient, and wait till they move out in the summer and then, block the access.  I thought that might be ok until this morning when I was brushing my teeth I heard one pee.  It made me sick.  For me they’re making this great new space unusable.   All can easily be fixed, once they’re gone, and that may very well be tomorrow.  Has anybody had an experience like this?
